The appeal of Suzuki"s...

The appeal of Suzuki"s new Grand Vitara SUV has been broadened with the introduction of a frugal diesel. The 1.9-litre DDiS starts at 16,999 and returns an economical 36.7mpg on the combined cycle. Top speed is 106mph and 0-60mph takes a little over 13 seconds. The permanent 4x4 system, as featured on petrol versions, also offers the oil-burner decent off-road ability. Standard equipment includes climate control, electric windows, a CD player, immobiliser and alloy wheels.

The AA Motoring Trust...

The AA Motoring Trust and RAC Foundation hit out after it was revealed the Department for Transport and its agencies spent a staggering 5million hiring extra lawyers to deal with an increase in claims last year. "I"d like to have seen the money going on a new bypass instead of legal costs for public inquiries and land disputes," said Paul Watters of the AA Motoring Trust. And Edmund King from the RAC added: "If planning procedures were streamlined, we"d get a better transport network in place faster and for less expense."

ALFA Romeo turned glamour...

ALFA Romeo turned glamour and style up to the max with the show debut of the landmark MiTo.

Photographers found themselves fighting their way through the crowds to get a shot of not one but two cars on display at the 2008 British International Motor Show. This is the first time the sporty supermini has appeared in the UK

British car buyers love sporty models more than in other countries, said Alfa Romeo marketing director Sergio Cravero. "So we are particularly proud to unveil the MiTo today."

But the new MiTo had to fight for attention with the gorgeous white drop-top 8C Spider, which was also present on the Alfa Romeo stand. It"s one of only 250 to be built.

So far the company has taken 1,300 orders for the supercar, but only 50 lucky people from this country will take ownership by the end of next year. Other hot metal on display included a white Brera Spider, plus a GT coupe and 159 Ti saloon both in an exclusive metallic red.
