The car was given a makeover two years ago, but the changes were confined to the engines, suspension and interior, making the S-Type better to drive than it had been at launch. Now, the Coventry firm has given its mid-size exec a fresher exterior, plus further cabin revisions. And, as we revealed last year, there will be a diesel for the first time.
An increase in length...
An increase in length of 18.7 cm means that the Altea XL benefits from improved luggage volume and extra rear legroom. The new model boasts a boot capacity of 532 litres as opposed to the 409 litres offered by the Altea.
With the rear seats moved forwards by 14 cm, luggage space grows to a cavernous and class-leading 635 litres. Folding down the back seats liberates a total capacity of 1,604 litres.
The newcomer joins the existing Altea to fully capitalise on customer demands for ever greater space and flexibility.
