From November, Audi drivers can beat the jams - as data from RAC Trafficmaster will be beamed into their sat-nav. First to benefit are A6 and A8 buyers, with current owners being sent the software on DVD. The uprated sat-nav finds the best route using real-time traffic information.

The Government is giving councils an í‚á£18million incentive to look into congestion charging - with í‚á£200m more for developing a working system. "We want to encourage pilot projects involving road pricing," said a Department for Transport official.
