Based on the platform...

Based on the platform of the forthcoming 157 saloon, which we revealed in issue 824, the car will get an elegant exterior, taking its cues from the stunning Brera concept seen at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show. Slim headlamps frame the trademark Alfa grille, while a deep front bumper completes the new front end. Sculpted flanks lead up to the curved rear, which has a low window, similar to the show car.

Dynamically, the GTV will benefit from the 157"s new chassis. This marks a turning point for the company, as it allows for both front and four-wheel-drive configurations. That means the standard variants will get the former, while performance GTA models will deliver maximum traction. A choice of potent engines will be available, with the line-up topped by the 247bhp 3.2-litre V6 petrol unit which currently powers the 156 and 147 GTAs.

A convertible Spider and a performance diesel - which will feature a new 250bhp 3.0-litre V6 JTD - are also on the way. The latter would give Alfa a direct rival to oil-burning two-doors from BMW and Mercedes.

Both the coup탩 and Spider will make their public debut at the Geneva expo next March, with sales beginning in the summer. Expect prices to increase over the current car, with entry-level models starting from around í‚á£21,000.
