The newcomer, badged Trophy in line with the special-edition M탩gane announced at the Geneva Motor Show, is currently being developed at the Renaultsport factory in Dieppe, France. That"s where it will eventually be built in a limited production run of 500 cars.

Technicians at Fiat are employing world-leading robotic technology to perfect the company"s cabin designs, and believe this sophisticated "exoskeleton" (see image) will allow them to explore the interiors of vehicles which exist only in virtual reality. In order to work the arm, a volunteer sits in a simulator which generates a 3D illusion of the inside of the new car.

They may be fashionable, but driving in flip-flops could be fatal. A quarter of road users admit to wearing open-toed footwear at the wheel - yet 75 per cent of those said it impeded car control. The main problem is soles catching under pedals. Insurer Norwich Union, which conducted the survey, said: "Motorists should think carefully about their footwear."

This is being reduced considerably but has been done in a way that will not affect customers as the deleted derivatives are those with an extremely low take-up.
