Derby city council is spending ÷£60,000 on halving the cost of the Pass Plus advanced driving course for newly qualified motorists. Officials have pointed to figures which show the first year on the road is one of the most dangerous for motorists.

A new BMW Hydrogen 7 has been presented to the Deputy Mayor of London in an attempt to raise awareness of hydrogen as an alternative fuel. It’s on loan to Nicky Gavron – who also heads the London Hydrogen Partnership – as part of a global initiative. So far, 100 Hydrogen 7s have been built for worldwide evaluation, but only six are set for the UK this summer.

Mazda will show 11 past, present and future vehicles at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed as it marks the 40th anniversary of its rotary engine. Among the exhibits on the retro stand at the West Sussex venue will be a 1967 Cosmo Sport 110S, a Le Mans 24 Hours-winning 787B, an RX-7 and a special-edition RX-8 40th Anniversary concept.
