Due in dealerships next...
Due in dealerships next spring, the production car looks even more aggressive than the concept that debuted at September"s Frankfurt Motor Show. Powered by the same 343bhp, 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine as the M3, the two-seater covers 0-62mph in five seconds on its way to a limited 155mph top speed - making it quicker than Porsche"s new Cayman S. Bulging wheelarches and a brace of twin exhausts separate the flagship from the rest of the line-up, along with a lowered ride height and larger brakes front and rear. The SMG paddleshift transmission will be an option.
Three exclusive colour schemes, large air intakes and 18-inch aluminium alloys complete the exterior makeover. Inside, the instrument dials get M detailing, while there"s a unique steering wheel and gearknob, exclusive leather seats and generous standard equipment.
"It"s a car we"ve been eagerly waiting for," said a spokesman for BMW. "The old 3.0-litre version was always compared with the Porsche Boxster, but now with the M we have a car that can take on the Cayman S. We expect it to be a relatively small seller which will appeal to those customers looking for a little more power."
Exact costs have yet to be finalised, but UK officials reckon the M4 will come in somewhere between the price of the Coup탩 and Convertible versions of the M3. That"s around í‚á£43,000 - slightly less than for the Cayman S.
