Executives for the Korean...

Executives for the Korean firm were keen to stress that the bold new crossover vehicle reveals the car maker"s future design direction.

At the front, sweeping headlamps and an imposing grille are an interpretation of the existing Kia "family face". Along the sides, the door skins have neat cut-outs, while large 22-inch wheels complete the look.

Inside, hi-tech materials are used for the four seats and facia. Neat programmable touch pads and motion sensors control functions such as the audio system and air-conditioning. Under the bonnet, a 400bhp 4.6-litre supercharged V8 and all-wheel-drive transmission ensure it is as capable off road as it is on. Len Hunt, Kia"s chief executive in the US, said: "To be honest, our owners don"t feel an emotional attachment to their cars. With this breakthrough design, we hope to create pride and passion for the marque."

The Kue was styled by new design chief Peter Schreyer, the man who penned the original Audi TT. This is his first project for Kia. Hunt also confirmed that the Kia Soul compact off-roader revealed at last year"s show will go into production for 2008.

Meanwhile, sister brand Hyundai confirmed the Ford Focus-rivalling Arnejs will start production this year. However, the push upmarket and rise in quality will probably see a move away from the company"s traditional value pricing.
