GM Chevrolet Europe...

GM Chevrolet Europe commissioned the hot four-door saloon from Northants firm RML. It"s the outfit that"s masterminding Chevy"s assault on the new World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). The car, essentially a roadgoing version of the racer, debuted at the Magny Cours round in France earlier this month.

Dubbed the WTCC R+, the newcomer has a 1.8-litre engine fitted with a supercharger kit from Swiss tuner Delta Motors. This boosts power by 40 per cent to 172bhp, giving the model a 0-60mph time of approximately eight seconds and a 130mph-plus top speed. The car has a wider track and a race-style rear wing, as well as tweaked suspension and upgraded brakes.

Chevrolet is canvassing reaction to the R+ from its European dealers and, if the response is positive, bosses are aiming to launch it at September"s Frankfurt Motor Show. The price would depend on how many were to be built.
