It"s been a long time...

It"s been a long time coming, and now it"s here, few will disagree that Maserati"s long-awaited new Coupé has been well worth the wait. Take a look at the first pictures of Italy"s latest rival to the Porsche 911: the Maserati GranTurismo.

Due to replace the outgoing two-door, the new model is one of the stars of the Geneva Motor Show. Its shape, which has been penned by Pininfarina, is among the most striking seen on any supercar in recent history.

Under its curvy bonnet, the Gran÷Turismo shares the engine of its big brother, the Quattroporte four-door saloon. The 4.2-litre V8 delivers an incredible 399bhp to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox. Using Mas÷erati"s latest technology, the transmission automatically adjusts ratio changes to suit the own÷er"s style. In everyday driving, shifts are super-smooth, but on the track, gears are engaged as fast as possible.

Inside, the new model has seating for four and a sumptuous leather-lined interior. Trim levels and specifications have yet to be announced, but the GranTurismo is expected to cost around ÷£73,000 when it goes on sale in the UK in October.
