Based on the XJ, the aluminium Daimler is powered by a 400bhp 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, producing a 0-60mph time of five seconds and a 155mph top speed. The car is set apart from the Jag by the Daimler fluted radiator grille, plus chrome trim on the door mirrors and rear light clusters.

Satellite-navigation systems could soon be updated using radio signals. DaimlerChrysler has developed a way to beam map data directly into cars, rather than needing the owner to install the information via CD-ROM or an Internet download. Transmitters would be located at petrol stations and could provide updates when filling up. They would also relay data on roadworks, closures and diversions.
