Satellite-navigation systems could soon be updated using radio signals. DaimlerChrysler has developed a way to beam map data directly into cars, rather than needing the owner to install the information via CD-ROM or an Internet download. Transmitters would be located at petrol stations and could provide updates when filling up. They would also relay data on roadworks, closures and diversions.
