Fed-up families have launched a safety website logging accidents and near misses on a notorious A-road. Residents living along the mainly single-carriageway A1079 between Hull and York say eight people have died, and nearly 200 people have been injured - some seriously - on the 30-mile stretch in the past three years. They hope recording incidents on the page (at www.a1079.org.uk) will highlight the blackspot to local authorities.

Selling second-hand child car seats should be banned, according to the car insurance arm of Sainsbury"s Bank. Research has revealed that at least 255,000 used seats were bought last year, yet it is impossible for parents to know if their purchase has been damaged in a crash. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has backed the call.
