Spied this week at a dealer launch in France, Renault"s next-generation Clio is out to give the number one-selling Corsa a tough fight - and it"s laying its hopes on a bold new face. With huge headlights and a smaller grille, the new three-door Clio is a stronger design than the current car. That visual strength is continued at the rear, with a chunky C-pillar and elliptical tail-lights. The whole effect is much sportier than the five-door, which will look more like a baby Scenic.

Our spy photographers caught the baby Fiat testing in Italy, and the firm has clearly kept its word, because it retains the cute profile and compact dimensions of the 2005 Trepiuno concept. It debuted at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, and was inspired by Fiat’s legendary Nuova 500, which was a hit worldwide between 1957 and 1975.

Starting on April 1st, and running for 3 months, the scheme allows car hunters to take a car for 72 hours to find out if it really works in their day-to-day driving. Included in the offer are the Corsa, Meriva, Tigra, Astra, Astra Sport Hatch, Zafira and Vectra.

While it"s less likely you"ll be able to turn up at the dealer and demand a VXR to turn up for the weekend, there are 2,000 cars in the scheme nationwide, and Vauxhall expects around 50,000 people to test drive this way over the coming 3 months.

The scheme was trialled initially last year and Vauxhall deemed it a huge success, with a massive 71% of participants reporting an "increased positive perception" of the company and its vehicles.
