Meet the latest British hero, the MMI Avocet. The sports car has a light body and a chassis developed by Ray Mallock – the man who prepares Chevrolet’s World Touring race cars. It features a 2.0-litre Ford engine, delivering either 150bhp or 225bhp, with the latter good for a 0-60mph time under five seconds. The models cost ÷£25,000 and ÷£28,000, and MMI plans to build 50 cars a year at its Essex factory.

A rubbish idea won a Brit top prize in Honda"s worldwide employee competition. Every year, staff are asked to devise solutions to internal problems. This year, Natascia Leone (image) from Honda"s UK press office won with her idea for recycling waste. But the prize - an all-expenses-paid trip to Istanbul, Turkey - was anything but trash!

The Panamera just got...

The Panamera just got even more plush. Porsche is giving customers the chance to add extra luxury to their super-saloon with

two new options packs.

First up is Exclusive, which is available now. It adds mahogany to the cabin, as well as leather,

aluminium and carbon trim. Buyers can have their interior reworked to their exact tastes ò€“ they can even specify the colour of the seatbelts ò€“ while thereò€™s also a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel.

From next month, there will also be a Tequipment options pack. This takes things a step further, and offers a 10.5-litre drinks cooler between the rear seats. Thereò€™s also an uprated in-car entertainment system, plus special wheel and tyre combinations for summer and winter. Prices start from Ò£236 for Porsche-branded headrests, and rise to Ò£2,319 for the rear-seat entertainment package.
