Our gadget or gimmick...
Our gadget or gimmick test (Issue 957) was fascinating stuff, but occasionally I wonder if manufacturers are having a laugh at our expense with some of the nonsense they cram into cars these days.
The new bridge has appeared...
The new bridge has appeared over the M6 in Lancashire, and replaces a 40-year-old farm access bridge at Mount Pleasant near Garstang. Although only for farm and equestrian centre access, the new ÷£2 million bridge can carry vehicles weighing up to 40 tonnes.
The fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) bridge is two-thirds the weight of the old bridge, but twice as strong, and should be cheaper to maintain. It has a better strength-to-weight ratio than steel or concrete, doesn"t corrode, and its lighter weight makes it easier to install initially.
