The new car, whose name...

The new car, whose name Auto Express revealed in Issue 846, will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and will be the first model to use the next-generation Mondeo platform.

Intended for families who have out-grown the traditional hatchback, but don"t need a full-size MPV, the S-MAX will be available in two formats. Five-seater models will form the basis of the range, but seven-seaters will feature Ford"s Fold Flat System - which is similar to the folding arrangement in the smaller Focus C-MAX.

With styling barely changed from the 2005 Geneva concept (see Issue 887), the sporty looking carrier will debut Ford"s new design direction - as seen on the Iosis concept.

The driving experience promises to be as sharp as the lines, while engines will come from the current Mondeo range. Expect the line-up to start at around ÷£17,000, rising to ÷£23,000.
