There are also deep-mounted foglights in the revised front valance, and the effect is exaggerated by bare plastic wheelarch extensions. They com-bine with fresh side skirts to further enhance the hot hatch appearance.
Gone are the standard variant"s functional door mouldings, which provide protection against scrapes, while trendy new rear lights - borrowed from the Cross SUV (image) variant driven in this issue - also feature. Body-coloured door mirrors and handles complete the job. Beneath the skin, stiffer and lower suspension will ensure the tiny offering handles better than the standard car, aided by bigger alloy wheels.
The sporty model is expected to arrive in 2007, and could even boast a performance-tuned diesel engine. It will be the third niche version of the popular Panda, following in the wheel tracks of the 4x4 and the Cross.
