Two out of 79 - that"s how many local authorities responded to the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) about its concerns over unnecessary road furniture. Only West Sussex and Herts signed up to the "Street Clutter Challenge". A CPRE spokesman said: "There"s a willingness to keep towns uncluttered - the countryside deserves the same."

This is the Saturn Vue, a US variant of Vauxhall"s Antara, which has all the sporty trimmings of a performance version of the forthcoming SUV.
Badged Vue XR, all you"ve got to do is remove the letters "ue" from the title to get Vauxhall"s sporty badge. However, the firm insists that it currently has no plans for an Antara VXR - no matter how good this Stateside model looks.
Unveiled at this week"s Los Angeles Motor Show, the XR has been finished with striking silver bumper protectors and big alloy wheels to beef up the Antara shape.
The Vue is available with a wide range of engines, including a potent 3.6-litre V6 petrol unit. However, an obvious choice for a future Antara VXR would be Vauxhall"s forthcoming 212bhp twin-turbo diesel. This powerplant will appear first in an oil-burning version of the Vectra VXR next year.
