New car sales in the UK rose for the first time in 2006 last month, to the delight of showroom bosses – but their joy may be short-lived, warn industry experts. Tucked between other cars on a transporter, the thin disguise made it easy to see the M탩gane-inspired front. The rear is similar to the current model, with all-new light clusters the only real change.

Nearly four years after its launch, Renault"s once-unique-looking Laguna has been superseded by fresher models such as the Volvo S40 and Peugeot 407 - so the French manufacturer will be hoping this facelift will help boost sales. The new nose gives the Laguna a sharper look, and also brings the car in line with Renault"s new family face, seen most recently on the Modus supermini-MPV.

The changes will not only be cosmetic, though, as the new Laguna will have a revamped engine line-up, including diesel units that comply with strict Euro IV emissions regulations. Trim levels and specifications will also be upgraded. It"s due to go on sale in the UK next summer, and prices are likely to remain unchanged.
