Residents living along the mainly single-carriageway A1079 between Hull and York say eight people have died, and nearly 200 people have been injured - some seriously - on the 30-mile stretch in the past three years. They hope recording incidents on the page (at www.a1079.org.uk) will highlight the blackspot to local authorities.

Sheep"s urine could be the revolutionary way to cut toxic emissions from buses. Travel firm Stagecoach has adapted a vehicle to use urea from the liquid in a process called selective catalytic reduction. It will go on trial in Winchester, Hants, this summer. A spokesman said: "We hope to kit out more vehicles so the town will have the UK"s largest eco-friendly fleet."

Volvo’s Freelander rival is the star attraction on the Volvo stand at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The XC60 is set to go on sale in the UK in October priced from ÷£24,500. Designers claim it’s the safest and most stylish vehicle Volvo has ever produced, so hopes are high for the new compact-SUV.

Buyers get a choice of 2.4-litre five-cylinder D5 diesels offering 163bhp or 185bhp, while the flagship T6 features a 281bhp 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6. All have a six-speed auto as standard. A front-wheel-drive-only 163bhp D5 will appear in 2009, pro–mising low 170g/km CO2 emissions.
