We captured the moment...

We captured the moment, and it"s good news - the Alfa Romeo Brera GTA is go! Bosses at the Italian firm let the cat out of the bag at an internal meeting, when a head-on image of the stunning new performance flagship was flashed up alongside the famous GTA logo during a presentation.

As our image shows, it looks as if visual changes will be kept to a minimum, but the hot Brera does get a revised front bumper with an aerodynamic spoiler and ducting to cool the uprated Brembo brakes. It could even include a unique airbrake design created at Alfa"s research centre. Power is tipped to come from a 4.2-litre V8 engine delivering 440bhp.

However, as with GTA models of the past, the newcomer won"t rely on power alone for its extra performance; it"s also set to boast weight-saving carbon fibre and aluminium parts. A lighter bonnet is likely, and even the company"s famous grille doesn"t escape - the usual chrome-rimmed design will make way for a simplistic mesh item on the GTA.

The clever Sky View glass roof will remain on the coup탩, although there"s also expected to be a Brera Spider version. Prices have yet to be announced, but a figure in the region of í‚á£48,000 is likely when the GTA arrives in 2007.
