Working on a car at night normally means holding a torch with one hand ò€“ limiting what you can do under the bonnet. But not with the neat new Silva L4 head torch.

Operated by a single rubber button, the unit couldnò€™t be easier to use. This same control also toggles between power save, medium, bright and blinking modes, as well as a red LED beam for use with night vision filming.

A pivoting mount lets you alter the beam angle by 90 degrees, and in our test, it provided a clear, wide spread of white light 15 metres away ò€“ which is exactly what the maker claims.
